Remotely monitored CCTV installations have become commonplace in the last five years, replacing manned guarding solutions as a cost-effective alternative.
Remotely monitored CCTV systems consist of a camera layout design that minimises blind spots and puts additional focus onto weak security points of the site. External alarm detectors are installed to cover vulnerable areas of the site.
If an alarm device is tripped when the system is armed, an instantaneous video stream is sent over broadband to a monitoring station. The monitoring station is manned 24 hours and day, 7 days per week.
The monitoring station then assess the nature and location of the alarm and review the recorded footage of the incident. An adjacent window on the screen gives live footage of the site. The operator is able to switch between cameras.
If a trespasser is detected on site, the operator can then announce a pre-determined voice message over the on site PA system ie ‘This is the Corps of Commissionaires monitoring station, you are being recorded on CCTV. Leave site now or a response will be summoned’.
On 99% of occasions, this is enough to clear the site. Should a more determined trespasser be on site, then the monitoring station can follow a pre-defined escalation procedure calling keyholders, manned security response or the Police, as necessary.
Taken a step further, the system can also be used as a 'Virtual Receptionist', with the monitoring station providing a very cost-effective Reception service for visitors and staff.
